The members of the Vancouver Firefighters Union (IAFF Local 18) have announced the endorsement of candidates for the upcoming Vancouver civic election race, including Mayor Gregor Robertson and all seven members of the Vision Vancouver team running for council positions.
“In these demanding times, we are convinced Mayor Robertson understands the incredible challenges facing the Vancouver Fire Department,” says Union President Gordon Ditchburn. “A commitment to public safety begins with a clear understanding of the issues. Vancouver fire fighters are dedicated to keeping the citizens of Vancouver safe, and we need Vancouver City Council members with that same commitment. We believe this is the team to lead Vancouver over the next three years.
“The 770 members of the Vancouver Fire Department encourage the residents of Vancouver to get out and vote on November 19,” says Ditchburn. “At no time in Vancouver’s history has the need for strong leadership and decis
ive action on the topic of firefighting been more important.”
The Vancouver Fire Department has the strength of 770 career fire fighters who serve a residential population of more than 628,000 citizens living in 23 distinct neighbourhoods across a geographical area of over 128 square kilometres. Vancouver firefighters responded to over 45,000 individual calls in 2010.
From all of us at Vision Vancouver, we thank the men and women of Vancouver Firefighters IAFF Local 18 for your support, and for all that you do to protect Vancouver citizens and businesses every day.
