Aaron Jasper

Park Board
"Our parks, beaches and community centres are essential to the quality of life for everyone in our city."

Elected to the Park Board in 2008, Aaron has served as Chair for the past two years. He also serves as the liaison to several community centres, the Hasting Park Conservancy, Vancouver Food Policy Council and the Vancouver Planning Commission.

Aaron believes that our parks, beaches and community centres are essential to the quality of life for all Vancouver residents. Despite challenging fiscal circumstances, Aaron and his Vision colleagues have ensured the accessibility of quality programming throughout our city.

Working closely with Mayor Robertson, Aaron and the Vision Commissioners secured millions in federal infrastructure funding which allowed the Park Board to renovate three east-side parks, build two artificial turf sport fields, make much needed repairs to the Stanley Park seawall, make improvements to the plaza at the Roundhouse Community Centre and build the new visitor centre at the Van Dusen Botanical Gardens.

In the fall of 2010, the Vision led Park Board enacted a "No Smoking" bylaw for all Vancouver parks, playgrounds and beaches. In collaboration with the Rick Hansen Foundation, the Park Board was able to open the first fully accessible playground in Vancouver at Kits beach.

In all aspects of the Park Board’s mandate, Aaron has been a strong advocate for the importance of engaging stakeholders and residents in meaningful consultation. By reducing it's carbon footprint and enhancing the habit and biodiversity of our parks, Aaron believes that the Park Board can help Vancouver become the Greenest City by 2020.

Under a Vision administration, the Park Board worked with community partners and planted three fruit orchards and expanded the number of community gardens throughout our city. Over the next five years, Aaron would like to see the Park Board play a leadership role in neighbourhood food security.

Aaron lives in the West End with his wife Arminder and their daughter Simran. He works in residential real estate with Royal LePage.
