"I believe that people can make a difference and I am ready to work with all levels of government to achieve that."

Constance was elected to the Vancouver Park Board in 2008.

As a single mother, supporter of the Arts, community activist and Not-for-Profit leader, Constance is passionate about bringing change to our city in order to restore and improve community centres and recreation systems throughout Vancouver and stop the erosion of outdoor swimming pools that brought so much joy to her and her children.

"We need to bring back the programs and facilities that once served our families and communities."

Constance's father was the late Emery Barnes, one of the first Black politicians elected to the legislative assembly in British Columbia. He was known for his work relating to social justice, human rights and poverty. Constance is a strong voice in continuing his legacy of a "tradition of change and community participation".

In addition to her work as a Park Commisioner, Constance serves on the board of the Canadian Special Events Society, was Operations Manager for Storyeum and has contributed hundreds of hours to grassroots community initiatives throughout the city.
