Rob Wynen is a career health professional with community leadership experience and a commitment to health and recreation as part of an educational foundation for both a sustainable city and a successful future for our children.
Rob is an expert in the relationship between urban design and promoting healthy active transportation. “Our kids will be the first generation to see a decrease in their overall physical health. Childhood obesity is on the rise as are a number of environmental challenges other generations have not experienced. It’s critical that our schools address these health issues and the design challenges behind them; we must support our kids in being active while ensuring they are safe traveling to and learning in our schools.” In both his career as a health and lifestyle consultant and in his volunteer activities, Rob has worked to promote student health.
Rob’s community work includes founding and leading the West End Residents Association where he worked on advocacy for cycling, pedestrian safety, park redesign, and developing the first community garden in the downtown core. He served on the boards of BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation), the Pedestrian Action Coalition and as chair of the Lord Nelson Parent Advisory Committee. He is the current chair of the city’s Bicycle Advisory Committee. Rob is experienced with public processes related to community facilities, including budgeting, design, and policy-making.
Rob is an avid bike commuter and gardener, an electronic music deejay, kayaker and bee keeper. He lives in East Vancouver with his wife and son who attends Grade 5 at Lord Nelson elementary.
