Tim was first elected to City Council alongside Mayor Larry Campbell in 2002. He was re-elected in 2005 and again in 2008 and has spent his career pursuing the values of equality and justice.
His commitment to public service has spanned through a range of front line work including volunteering at the Downtown East Side's First United Church, becoming Canada's first openly gay Minister, monitoring human rights overseas, and serving in public office as a BC Cabinet Minister and a City Councillor.
Tim has been a strong advocate on city council of renters’ rights and protecting low-income housing. Over the past three years Tim has championed the City deploying legal injunctions on single-room occupancy hotels in the Downtown Eastside – the first time such a step has been used in Vancouver’s history. These legal injunctions force negligent landlords to fix their buildings and maintain safety for residents.
Tim is a proud resident of the West End, and has lived there for over 30 years with his partner Gary.
